Residents rejoice (cautiously)!

After what might seem like many eons (and 8 submissions, if we’re to be specific), permits were finally approved for the park at 6000 N Main St, in the East Sunset Heights neighborhood!

Per the Houston Permit Center status website (Project ID 24101710), the journey began with the first submission to the Permit Center on 11/14/2024 and finally approved on 10/13/2025. The park has been in planning stages for many years before that.

Earlier this year, Houston City Council had approved funding for the park to the tune of $2.487 million as part of the 2025-2029 Capital Improvement Plan (link). This funding includes an urban outdoor grant of $898,000 from Texas Parks & Wildlife Commission (source) that was made circa May 2021.

The next step in the journey is awarding the contract for construction of the park. A solicitation for bids was released on 10/24/2025 (link), and is will close on 11/20/2025. An in-person conference date for interested parties will be held on 11/05/2025 at City Hall.
