Summary from April ’25 Quarterly Meeting

Transit Center Park

  • Park is still in the permitting stage. After three submissions were declined, they’ve submitted a fourth iteration. They’re hoping this will be approved.
  • Optimistically, they’re hoping for approvals by end of May 2025, and go into procurement/contracting. They anticipate breaking ground in the fall (August), and hand over control of the park around April 2026. Requires a final City Council approval.
  • Funding for the core elements of the park are secured. This includes fence along Main Street and Adele, walking trail, kids play area, stormwater retention tank, landscaping and some fixed outdoor furniture (benches). Any work on the existing Metro structure will require community fundraising.

City Council District H Office

Ty, from Council Member Castillo’s office shared the following updates:

  • Their willingness to work with Houston Parks to get permitting through the final step
  • Collaboration with District C to schedule a community engagement opportunity on the 11th Street Bike Lanes, inviting businesses located on the street, Heights residents and frequent commuters to attend and share their opinion (positive/negative) about 11th Street. The current date is tentatively for April 27th, 2025 (it will be in the morning time). Exact date/time/location to be confirmed. Parking may be a concern.

METRO Community Connector

The Houston Heights will get a Community Connector, a (presently) free all-electric shuttle offering direct travel to locations within the area of service. Rides should be requested via the Ride Circuit app.
